P07 → RCA x Snap AR (Sensory Misalignment)
Art Direction and XR Design
For Snap x RCA research programme, my project Sensory Misalignment is a research-driven interactive experience that explores the boundaries of human perception and questions the nature of reality. This project investigates how our senses shape our understanding of the world, aiming to disrupt the automatic and unconscious processes that dull our sensory experiences through repetition and familiarity.
By creating deliberate sensory mismatches, Sensory Misalignment challenges users’ expectations, encouraging them to reconsider the way they perceive and engage with their surroundings. The project also critiques the diminishing and restrictive effects of AI and machine learning on human perception, drawing attention to how these technologies often reinforce predictable patterns and limit our ability to experience novelty.
This project was exhibited at Royal College of Art, Battersea (September 2024)
Through interactive sensory disruptions, the project invites participants to break free from the confines of automated perception, fostering a more active and conscious engagement with reality. Sensory Misalignment opens up a space for questioning not only the reliability of our senses but also the growing influence of AI-driven systems on shaping our everyday experiences.
